Windows? 🫠
l
yes, it is already support in customer clusters.
b
Why your are not using Ubuntu or Amazon Linux instead?
l
windows based containers will run on windows worker nodes only
b
And why you are not using linux based containers instead?
l
depends on the application needs
b
You mean you have applications that only are able to run on Windows Servers? and not Linux/Ubuntu?
l
yes
@miniature-megabyte-23048 kindly advise if this is possible 🙂 .
b
Your cluster already have worker nodes running not Windows Server Os?
l
yes, cluster has master nodes and worker nodes .. all linux ..
i want to add windows worker node now
b
Ok so, you can do it. You just need to build your EC2 template with Windows Server and when you add some new pool node you should pick de AMI ID
EC2 Template = AMI template
l
are you sure about this?
b
Never tried but according Rancher it’s possible
l
but did they mention if windows worker node can be added?
can you please share document link?
i already tried this option and it didn't work
b
hhmm..so according to the Rancher documentation, the only way to create a Kubernetes cluster with both Windows Server and Ubuntu nodes is to create a separate Kubernetes cluster for the Windows Server nodes and then set up a separate cluster for the Ubuntu nodes. Detailed information on how to create heterogeneous Kubernetes clusters with Rancher can be found at this link: https://ranchermanager.docs.rancher.com/v2.5/pages-for-subheaders/use-windows-clusters
l
you can have 1 custom cluster with both linux and windows worker nodes mixed.
it is already tested and working.
but i don't want to create new clusters to have windows worker nodes
i already have some ec2 provider clusters, and i want to add windows worker node in them. Is there a way to do it?
Do we have anyone from rancher team to confirm if it is officially supported by rancher?
