Building rancher isn't reassuring...
npm WARN deprecated urix@0.1.0: Please see <https://github.com/lydell/urix#deprecated>
npm WARN deprecated har-validator@5.1.5: this library is no longer supported
npm WARN deprecated resolve-url@0.2.1: <https://github.com/lydell/resolve-url#deprecated>
npm WARN deprecated fsevents@1.2.13: fsevents 1 will break on node v14+ and could be using insecure binaries. Upgrade to fsevents 2.
npm WARN deprecated chokidar@2.1.8: Chokidar 2 will break on node v14+. Upgrade to chokidar 3 with 15x less dependencies.
npm WARN deprecated querystring@0.2.0: The querystring API is considered Legacy. new code should use the URLSearchParams API instead.
npm WARN deprecated uuid@3.4.0: Please upgrade to version 7 or higher. Older versions may use Math.random() in certain circumstances, which is known to be problematic. See <https://v8.dev/blog/math-random> for details.
npm WARN deprecated request@2.88.2: request has been deprecated, see <https://github.com/request/request/issues/3142>
npm WARN deprecated popper.js@1.16.1: You can find the new Popper v2 at @popperjs/core, this package is dedicated to the legacy v1
npm WARN deprecated flatten@1.0.3: flatten is deprecated in favor of utility frameworks such as lodash.
npm WARN deprecated dmg-license@1.0.11: Disk image license agreements are deprecated by Apple and will probably be removed in a future macOS release. Discussion at: <https://github.com/argv-minus-one/dmg-license/issues/11>
npm WARN deprecated @types/anymatch@3.0.0: This is a stub types definition. anymatch provides its own type definitions, so you do not need this installed.
npm WARN deprecated @types/browserslist@4.15.0: This is a stub types definition. browserslist provides its own type definitions, so you do not need this installed.
npm WARN deprecated svgo@1.3.2: This SVGO version is no longer supported. Upgrade to v2.x.x.
npm WARN deprecated core-js@2.6.12: core-js@<3.4 is no longer maintained and not recommended for usage due to the number of issues. Because of the V8 engine whims, feature detection in old core-js versions could cause a slowdown up to 100x even if nothing is polyfilled. Please, upgrade your dependencies to the actual version of core-js.

ok, i'm trying to build one now, this is fun (but, oh my eyes, there's a screen full of bright yellow text on white background...)
ok, so, i have a thing, it starts for a split second and then disappears, and i have on idea why
running it w/o the packaging, seems i'd need to give it the aarch64 version of lima as well and then convince the packager to do the right thing for those files
This is a stale item (i.e. I have it working past here, in fact generally working, minus all the packaging fixes), but, I'd argue that the error handling is a bit wrong... The message says that Rancher Desktop for x86_64 does not work on aarch64, but in fact the Rancher Desktop I'm using is aarch64 and the limactl it tried to run was x86_64. So, I'd kinda prefer an internal error message citing a mismatch between internal binary components over the current text:
