i was wondering whether there was any way to label a volume to add a recurring backup job? i am sure that i read something on that but i cannot see the reference. many thanks.

Yes you can add a recurring job by directly labeling the volumes. And you can get the format by checking an existing volume (with some recurring jobs/job groups set).
