Please help me how is suse recommended approach we cannot use Rancher as we have physical servers with no hypervisor
b
I can help a little with this part
Also, I almost didn't answer because I'm not Brandon.
You CAN use Rancher with physical servers.
And autoscaling is supported
But you're gonna use something called Elemental.
See #C028DVCAYLD
There's lots in there in the docs about how to set up physical boxes as nodes.
Metal3 could work, but isn't a SUSE product which is what you were asking about.
Likewise a lot of folks running on metal use Sidero.
But Brandon is absolutely right in saying that details on how to do specific things is way too big of an ask for community support, and I 100% back up his statements and say you should probably be paying someone if you need more than what's available in the docs.
That's not always possible, so I'd suggest reading the elemental docs and then asking in the appropriate channel without DMing or pinging a single person out with your questions or what you need clarification on as the best bet of getting your answers. 🙂

We will be having two physical servers for the POC purpose we need to show then second physical server joining the cluster when pods are pending on my first
Virtualization is needed for rancher
b
Lies
I run rancher on bare metal
Literally 1/2 my official day job responsibilities.
e
Means you must have rke on the bare metal and then have installed rancher on it right
b
Means I installed an OS, then k3s and run rancher on it.
Then use Rancher to manage and provision more bare metal nodes that run RKE and other stuff.
But there's 100 ways you can do that.
And knowing which way is the right way is what you pay someone for.
e
Okay so same cluster you deployed Rancher on, You will rancher to join more worker nodes on the same k3s
b
No
It's a seperate downstream cluster
e
Okay understood
Sir
b
Your rancher cluster doesn't have to be anything fancy
You can probably run it on raspberry-pi boxes.
e
Ohk Then the second cluster which is downstream will be created using Rancher and will need Elemental for that
b
This is the way.
e
We are trying to register the bare metal using the BareMetalHost from Metal3 but we not found a single way how we will join it in our cluster
Your help regarding Elemental will Help a lot Sir
Hi @bland-article-62755 We can scale up and scale down nodes as well using this as you have already cracked it will help a lot
Can scaling be automated in Rancher in combination with elemental
b
It's all api driven
everything can be automated with enough effort.
Go read the elemental docs
e
Sure sir
h
I do not quite understand auto-scaling function for physical servers If you have 2 or more servers that are dedicated for auto-scaling, to me that means, nothing else is using them and just sitting idle. So, why not go ahead and add them to the cluster??
e
@hundreds-evening-84071 This is just a test POC wanted to show them but in production they have more that 2
In production out of 10 most of them will be in off state will be powered on once pods in the cluster are pending
