I'm not seeing a button to upgrade rancher

f
This means that the update has been detected, but the download has not yet started. You should eventually see download progress, or an error message? Or did it keep sitting there like this forever?
q
Current status:
Is 8 hours not enough time?
f
Let me check if there should be errors in log files anywhere
Errors should be in
update.log
, but it looks like they only get written when debug logging is enabled (which I think is a bug by itself). You can turn on debug logging, but I'm not sure if the download will even retry. So you may need to stop and restart after turning on debug logging. Then it will either have fixed itself, or we should get an error in the log file.
q
i think this happened because my mac performed an os update
f
It is not clear to me how this can happen. Any real network error should be displayed in the page instead of download progress. I don't know how it can just stall like this

This is after the restart, or from the current "hanging" session?
q
current session
which would have been triggered by the os update
i don't restart my mac or rancher desktop in general
it looks like it downloaded the update on the 3rd and then didn't do much exciting on the 4th?

I need to look some more. I was looking in the wrong place because I thought the download didn't start. But this seems like an issue in the updater itself.
q
not a problem. i don't expect you or anyone else to understand/recall everything 🙂
f
I will have to confirm by testing, but I think there is a bug in applying already downloaded upgrades. You can probably get it to upgrade by deleting the cached download, so it will download again, and then trigger the "Install Now" button when the download is done. Thanks for reporting this! I was pretty sure that this part (installing a downloaded update later) was working correctly.

q
fwiw, quiting and restarting triggered
f
Interesting. Still curious that you never got the 1.22.2 and 1.22.3 updates
Oh, wait, this is 1.22.3. I was confusing it with 1.23.0 😄
q
i think the question still stands
f
And I think 1.22.2 was never on the auto-updater
😮 1
Sorry, which question stands?
q
why didn't i get offered 1.22.2, but if it didn't make auto-updater, that'd explain it
f
No, it was 1.22.1 was withdrawn before it made it to the auto-updater, but 1.22.2 was pushed to the channel

So yes, the question stands why you never got the 1.22.2 update

q
i think rancher-updater whatever needs to do a toast-notification to tell me about updates
because in general, i'm never "starting" rancher desktop
it's just running for weeks
but, i'm not certain it got to those points... gotta run...
