There has to be some way for rancher (when in containerd mode) to spit out a pretty message saying "Rancher is currently configured to use containerd, if you want to use rancher with docker, please go to settings and change it"
I swear I'm never picking containerd, and it's periodically deciding to go back to it and breaking all of my workflows 😢

I'm confused; your screenshot shows that you are using Docker (moby), not containerd:
Are you running with "Admin access" enabled? Because your error mentions the default socket location
unix:///var/run/docker.sock
. If you are running in non-admin mode, then maybe the docker context is no longer set correctly and you need to run
docker context use rancher-desktop
?

Yeah, my screenshot clearly did show moby. But some other screens showed containerd 😵
I ended up going into preferences and re-changing the settings to moby which "fixed" things
I do have the admin thing checked (i'm an old legacy user and haven't migrated)
