Out of curiosity, anyone out there crazy enough to still be running rancher server 1.6 in production? We’ve still got an old rancher 1 setup running alongside our rancher2 just waiting for it to die and move everything over but it still hasnt given up the ghost and does everything we need it to do. Its kinda wild how after 8 + years of running it, despite being completely unsupported, it still gives our engineers less trouble and loss of sleep compared to our “modern” Rancher2 rke production environment 😆. It got me wondering if there are any community forks of 1.6 floating around or some sort of community around it?🤔

I don't work here anymore but last I saw yes, still a bunch very slowly declining in telemetry. There was maybe one working fork to fix the LetsEncrypt root expiring debacle of a-couple-years-ago but otherwise no community I know of. The build & release process was pretty involved and the entire chain of versions of tools & software involved and the distros their images are based on are also EOL
(fun fact, if you go to
<http://your-install/humans.txt>
my avatar still had hair then)

Thats awesome, thanks for all your hard work and vision btw! Don’t think our team could have gotten as far as we did without rancher 🙏

@full-painter-23916 I've just checked in rancher2, and your avatar is also with hair 🙂 As Kevin said: thanks for the work, vision, and for still supporting us here. 🙇

Yes I forgot which ascii-inator I used that produced a clean image so never updated it there.. our designer Lauren made ~15 steps of progressively less hair between the original and current and so changed Slack one frame a week until almost the end before anybody noticed
