Only because this is coming up a ton with dev tools. Most of the target demographic loves their brew and winget so a large amount of users will skip a hosted install option with the MSI params. Be nice to set some of the params via Win GPO/registry or macOS Profiles. That way “if” they install the bits it comes up with the known good configs. Similar to how Chrome can be managed.

Yes, that is part of the plan. I just wrote up the issue for it: Add support for deployment profiles · Issue #3649 · rancher-sandbox/rancher-desktop Please add any feedback you have, especially specific requirements for managed deployment!

nothing magical on my side, but will see if I can add any color to help out. Not naming names, but MSIs and JSON files are just not ideal for config management unless you have absolute control of the env.
f
I already wrote that it will need to go into the registry on Windows. It is not clear to me if supporting
.plist
provides additional value over just
.json
on macOS. I don't have any experience rolling things out via MDM solutions
w
it does and will explain in Issue thread. MDM mobileconfigs are also applicable to Intune managed Win PCs as Windows moves away from GPO/Domains and to AAD.
like we install the Chrome managed config even if you don’t have Chrome in /Applications

Thanks! Please leave info in the issue. I'll have more questions next year, but will go mostly offline for the rest of the year by tonight...

same boat myself

I consider it likely that we'll implement deployment profile in Q1 2023 because it will be needed to lock the Allowed Images list, which some enterprise users have been asking for.

proxy and vpnkit are the highest on my wishlist if santa is watching. i have docs to help folks wire in vpnkit for WSL and avoid the routetable issues, but proxy and kubernetes I have yet to figure out a stable option
