Introducing DBaaS v0.1.0 for Harvester and Rancher! Hi everyone! πŸ‘‹ We're excited to share the first release of DBaaS (Database as a Service), an open-source project under WSO2 Open Cloud Datacenter! DBaaS enables provisioning and managing PostgreSQL databases on Harvester, with each database running in its own VM. It includes: β€’ Kubernetes Operator – Automates database provisioning and lifecycle management on Harvester. β€’ Rancher UI Extension – Manage databases directly from Rancher, including snapshots, restores, and OS updates. πŸ”— Release and installation instructions: github.com/wso2/open-cloud-datacenter/…/… This is our initial release, and we'd love to hear your feedback, suggestions, or questions from the community! πŸ™Œ

Yohan - beautiful! What is the business model behind this with WSo2? Is it all FOSS or are features gated?
o
Hi Alejandro , thank you for your interest ! @billions-smartphone-68739 would be better suited to answer your question.

@happy-cat-90847 WSO2 uses Harvester and Rancher to run the internal IaaS and we want to share our model to Opensource world to share our experience. WSO2 has no business interest on this project. We like to get others feedbacks and improve our model on the go. We plan to build more higlhelevel services like DBaaS in the future.

Cool, if you notice some Harvester requirements/bugs, please also report to

, thanks.

Why not just use cnpg operator? Because of security/isolation? Even with katacontainers as runtimeClass?
o
@able-helicopter-79916 Thanks for the question! CloudNativePG is definitely a great option, and our project isn't intended to replace it. We had some internal requirements to run databases in VMs rather than containers, so we built this solution around Harvester. We wanted to share our approach with the community, and hopefully it will be useful for others with similar requirements.
