Yes. There is a long standing bug in the agent install script that can cause it to overwrite the connection info file if it gets an error response from rancher when upgrading. This is fixed in the new version of rancher you are upgrading to. Unfortunately it is the old version that is responsible for doing the upgrade to the new version. Once upgraded it should not happen again.

was this in the errata about the upgrade, i could have sworn i'd ran through it to make sure things would go smooth.... anyway - slowly starting to sort things out!

What version off rancher was this fixed in. We went from 2.13.5 to 2.14.1 and seem to encountered this issue. The ‘apply-system-agent-upgraded-on’ pods all fail with a 503 received while downloading rancher connection information. Sleeping for 5 seconds and trying again. When i ssh into the node it’s running on we see that rancher2_connection_info.json file is empty

Think it maybe be fixed in 2.14 - also check your k3s version that rancher is running on - mine needed an update!

as I said earlier…
