I'm not sure on the technical aspect, but can confirm manually doing enabling ipv6 on an ipv4 does cause issues with a several components. The docs state not to do this and can confirm from my experience it's not worth hassle. Carve out nodes or build a new cluster with dual stack enabled and transition workloads to the new cluster.
