Pardon my ignorance, I'm just curious on the chainguard subject. Do you know what the Chainguard's support expectations are for issues like these related to the hardening? i.e. for the money being spent on Chainguard images, should they be helping to contribute enhancements to the project?

I did reach out to them and submit a ticket - TBD on anything actionable or things they can take back upstream, but agreed

FWIW we also have a Neuvector Prime subscription

Yea I was mainly curious on Chainguards' stance in general, top of mind with all the maintainer burnout going on. I'm thankful there are some competitors coming to the table anyways.
We've generally been advised that in addition to github, to submit support tickets in SCC even for feature requests, which could bring more attention to it.
I also wonder if NV has an equivalent hardened image through suse's Application Collection or if that's coming soon, and maybe that could serve as a reasonable alternative
thanks for the insight!

I'd be open to exploring it - additionally Chainguard doesn't have hardened manager or scanner containers (I think they do have manager)

@quaint-candle-18606 @magnificent-balloon-44813 curious if you have insights on the above
q
From an official standpoint, we do not support those images at all.

I was curious about suse hardened image source, or if it's even necessary
q
Not necessary for this particular instance, but do know that SUSE has a really good Application Collection repo that is very poorly advertised. (Disclaimer: I’m packing out responses with very poor cell service while hiking in the northern woods.)
