Hi, I am researching k3s vs. k0s (Mirantis) for a medium-to-large-scale distributed edge orchestration project - think > 1K nodes. Has anyone here done the comparison or has experience with k0s? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! I haven't done a comparison on that scale. However for a couple nodes, both K3s and K0s perform similarly. Maybe an advantage with K0s is that there are different processes for each component (for example, there's a distinct containerd process which you won't see with K3s) Either way, there's nothing out there which is against using K3s or K0s at such a scale.

@clever-air-65544 do we have something on that ?

For 1K+ nodes I can point you towards our scale testing requirements for K3s. I have no idea what K0s requires (I'm sure its somewhat similar). FYI on that docs page, ignore the current section on
Large Clusters
its out of date and I have it on my TODO to update it.

Is there anyone at Rancher I can talk to? We are looking to deploy 4000 and 320 nodes at 2 sites using k3/0s and rancher fleet or k0rdent to manage the k3/k0s clusters.

If you are looking for consulting or support: https://www.suse.com/contact/ Community support here is best effort. You can also attend the k3s community meeting (https://k3s.io/community), but that is NOT a venue to seek support or consulting services.

thanks. i got that this wasn't the venue but when i tried the rancher page, i got redirected round and round. so i was hoping to jiggle the vine here and get a point of contact for rancher.
(my previous rancher contact was dedicated to my last contract, Williams-Sonoma, and i didn't have the contact info anymore, with the contract being over.)
worst case scenario, we will go with k0s and k0rdent but i want to do full due diligence first since support/acct mgmt was easier so far.
225K nodes, 86 k3/0s clusters with fleet mgmt is our full-scale target deployment so no, this is not the venue for support! 😛
my problem is i don't even have a contact for acct mgmt.
but anyway, won't be bothering the channel here anymore. hello, k0s, let's talk.
c
if you have support, you should have a contact, or at least info to login to the support portal. I imagine mirantis functions the same way, with a clear split between paid and community support channels.
m
i don't have support and trying to get a contact to start the convo.
LET ME REITERATE: I AM NOT LOOKING FOR REPLACEMENT-PAID SUPPORT HERE.
this is a waste of time.
c
that’s what the contact form is for. There are no sales folks here, just users and engineers.
m
thank you for the corrrection, unnecessary but thanks
like i have explained: i am hoping to get a name at rancher to start support/sales convo specifically for k3s. i have a team at mirantis already but want to give k3s/rancher a full due diligence.
you are basically discouraging me from using rancher/k3s
c
If you fill out the contact form, someone will reach out to you and then you will have a name.
m
i did, the woman sales contact was not helpful. she pointed me to the rancher rodeo, which was something i did last year before we signed with rancher for WSI.
but soooo sorry for wasting your time here. 😛
p
You're asking for a Rancher contact in the K3s community channel 🥲
m
my assumption was: this being k3s and i am seeking contact for k3s from rancher, that there would be some rancher k3s personnel.
that's all.
and that person(s) can ping me and point me forward. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT BEYOND INITIAL IMPRESSION HERE!
i think i have made that clear.
c
There are several rancher K3s folks here yes. I am one of them, but like I said, we’re engineers. We do not use the community support channel to generate sales leads, and there are not sales folks here. I will see if I can get a hold of someone to follow up with whatever inquiry you opened via the contact form.
m
no worries, as the lead engineer, i am leaning toward not using rancher at all because of this experience.
thank you and good bye.
c
ok, have fun!

Anh and I are working together. Thanks all.
