You need to have the metrics API server installed to gather metrics such as CPU and memory. Rancher is gathering it's data from the same source as

kubectl top nodes

https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/metrics-server kubeadm doesn't install this by default so you will need to install it into your cluster.
