i've been wondering exactly this myself. it looks like the underlying longhorn storage has a number of built-in options (https://longhorn.io/docs/1.3.1/snapshots-and-backups/scheduling-backups-and-snapshots/), but i would assume there are no 3rd-party integrations at this point.
there is also built-in support in harvester for VM backups. https://docs.harvesterhci.io/v1.0/vm/backup-restore/
it doesn't look like harvester supports snapshots, scheduled backups, etc. though. it seems like there needs to be some integration between harvester and longhorn's built-in backups.

scheduled backup
is not supported yet. cc @ancient-pilot-51731 @prehistoric-balloon-31801
snapshot
is also not supported in
Harvester UI
as of v1.1.0

Thanks guys, unfortunately until both of these these things are supported, in my opinion this project isnt production ready. Its nice, Longhorn is cool, the UI is “interesting” from a VM Standpoint, but without proper backup abilities it wont get sign-off as a fit for purpose production system. Cheers All.

Have you considered the following two products? 1. Ark - disaster recovery backup and restore by Heptio 2. MinIO

Velero (former Heptio Ark) looks interesting… however I think the best option here (caveat - without trying it yet) could be Kastens K10 https://www.kasten.io
