i'm not a kubernetes guy at all, just trying harvester hci to check it out on a cluster and i was wondering, is the requirement to restart the vm going to remain when changing vlans ? i couldn't actually find anything that says why you can't change vlans live, it just said a reboot is required
b
Yeah if you're changing vlans it needs to attach to a different network bridge device and the pod needs to restart to do that.
You might get around that if you brought in a tagged network connection and are breaking it out inside the VM vs at the Harvester level, but you'd have to have that trunk connection before the VM starts.
r
i see, i was trying to word my thoughts about that requirement, i'd have to think about the second thing you said and try to wrap my mind around that.
b
Honestly I wouldn't recommend it.
😅
We stumbled upon it while setting up Harvester a while ago. and have had a bunch of work to undo it.

oh i see, so you were trying to run a more than homelab environment too? i have a cluster set up in a datacenter for it, nothing too fancy, wanted to try it because it seemed cool, hci but no cache information.. honestly not expecting crazy stuff for free but it seems pretty cool
b
Yes... homelab.... def not a poc that turned into production....

lol
i'm trying to restore a snapshot and it's giving me: backup target is invalid
crazy
good thing i didn't drop this on the genoa's
b
There's some weirdness depending on your version and which CSI driver you're using.
You also might want to join #C01GKHKAG0K as the user base is more focused there.

i see, thanks
