Sounds like something is wrong when asking for credentials. See if

shows any errors? Alternatively, see if turning that knob off (https://docs.rancherdesktop.io/ui/preferences/application/general#administrative-access) helps, at least to narrow the problem down.

It is off, I did a factory reset after getting the error, and it didn't appear to help.
