t
side quest, are there any docs that show how to setup up Rancher managing workloads on the harvester nodes? aka NOT in VMs?
f
Is that perhaps the
harvester-baremetal-container-workload
feature flag under Global Settings in Rancher?
t
Huzzah!
f
I skimmed it in the docs but have not tried it myself
t
I am testing now. 😄
f
interested to hear how it goes
t
i’ll have a video in a few minutes. 😉

f
too funny, I’ve actually came across quite a few of your videos on youtube over the past few weeks. I didn’t connect the dots
t
lol. make sure you like share and subscribe. lol
f
What do you think the primary advantage here is, performance?
t
management and resources. being able to manage workloads without managing an OS in a VM is better.
although sometimes it is easier to manage it with a vm for logical and network isolation
f
it seems at some point these two products may merge into one
t
sort of.. the harvester gui is based on rancher. I think they will stay separate, although they will have the same design language.
f
appreciate the videos, keep up the good work! I’ve been evaluating Harvester/Rancher over the past few weeks to see if its a fit for our org. For VM workloads I need to transition off of RHEV since its on life support and also looking to move more toward container deployments as well. Seems like a good offering to achieve both and not nearly as much of a headache as OpenShift
t
having worked at RH, Harvester is 100% easier! especially with pxe booting/installing. totally worth a look.
f
ya I’m a bit weary of longhorn for high performance I/O workloads. I am quite interested to see how well things work in 1.5 with NFS/3rd party storage options
t
longhorn is chatty. even with the v2 engine. I too am looking forward for 1.5 so I am use an external array for booting and storing vms. 😄
