Hi all. Are there any solutions/patterns for automating and provisioning cluster with on premise physical machines (e.g no hypervisor). Projects like tinker ell look interesting wondered if anyone had done anything similar?

You may want to look at more general frameworks than Rancher, such as OpenHPC, Omnia, etc.

I'm thinking you may want to look at what Rancher 2.7 is doing wrt machines.

That does look interesting. I take it that it’s the elemental OS running directly against the physical rather than lots of micro vms all running elemental?

in the way I think it is being consumed "elemental" creates the iso on which the "metal" (or vm) is run which in turn will be the node for the cluster. Everything is fully managed by Rancher. Rancher has the concept of a machine which would equate to a cluster node.

Interesting. I’ll have a look through the docs to try to work it out
