in rancher UI where you get the registration URL there should be check boxes for etcd/control plane/worker
so if you only check worker it will deploy worker only node

then click on the cluster name - do not click on the "Explore" button

when you are creating cluster and defining machine pools is where that is from

no so if you go back to cluster management screen
then click on the 3 vertical dots (next to Explore button)
and Edit Config
you should see machine pools there

it is not allowing me to save it
i have the same problem while creating the cluster

yeah - you cannot remove etcd and control plane roles from the existing machine pool
so if you scroll down there should be a + sign to add a machine pool

if i click + it is creating node as etcd,ctpl, worker node

yeah then uncheck etcd/cp from that new pool

got it, If i add a new pool, it allowed me to worker noeds
