Not necessarily. You can use other CSI/CPI drivers. I have deployed K3s/RKE2 clusters using Rancher onto Harvester (Ubuntu cloud images used for the VMs) and used NFS on a NetApp array for the workload PVCs. No additional Longhorn install required.

You can also use the harvester-csi driver and use Harvester's Longhorn from inside your downstream clusters.

Yes quite useful... you can also map your Harvester Storageclasses unto your downstream cluster https://docs.harvesterhci.io/v1.4/rancher/csi-driver

@square-rose-18388 when using Harvester as the cloud provider for RKE2 cluster deployments, you get the CSI Passthrough and a StorageClass out of the box.
