dont do that. use the native kubernetes apis whenever possible.
f
Well, I have to because Traefik gets fed from Rancher Metadata.
Unless Rancher metadata will end up updating itself from Docker
c
what makes you think you can’t do what you need to do with the native Kubernetes APIs?
and you certainly shouldn’t be doing anything directly with Docker
or are you talking about Rancher Desktop?
f
No Rancher Cattle
c
what version of Rancher are you using?
f
1.6.30
c
whoa you DEFINITELY shouldn’t be using that. Thats like 4 and a half years old and rancher 1.x is WAY end of life and unsupported.
f
That's fair. But do you know how to work the API? I've been reading the specifications file and it simply doesn't cover creating references
c
No. 1.x end of life was announced in 2018. Its been unmaintained since like, 2020. That version was end of life before I joined the company and I’ve been here over 4 years.
why are you building something new on Docker and Rancher 1.6 in what’s basically 2025?

Not building something new, supporting existing infrastructure
Agree it needs to be replaced, just hoping for assistance if possible (best effort).
Maybe the same API specs carried into 2.x?
c
I don’t think we have more than maybe one or two folks left that worked on 1.x. Most of the original Ranchers founder left a year or so following the acquisition by suse.
No, 2.x is all Kubernetes native
f
Any assistance is greatly appreciated
