Hi Kajcsa - curious which CPU you're on? I'm seeing this with a few users on M4 macbooks, but not others, and in their case VZ doesn't seem to work.

Hi @bulky-computer-31499 I have the Apple M4 Pro with the 14 core CPU (10 performance and 4 efficiency).

Thanks!

Mine is the 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9, VZ works but QEMU does not.

Hi, I have the same issue on my MacBook Pro M4. Thanks for the workaround.
f
Current versions of QEMU do not support the Apple M4 processor, so for now you must use VZ instead. Rancher Desktop 1.17.0 will come with a fixed version of QEMU for M4, but moving to VZ is probably a good idea anyways. I expect it to become the default emulator in 1.18.0.

I saw that GitHub issue, thanks. Unfortunately, switching to VZ seems not to be working for a number of my M4 users as well. Tried factory reset and then starting with rdctl and option to use VZ for machine type, but it seems to wait forever for ssh to start and then fails.
f
Do you have full logs for one of them, so we can take a look. Unfortunately we don't have direct access to an M4 machine right now. 😞

I had a user grab logs from rancher-desktop/lima/0/*.log - any others I should gather?
f
The full set of logs is in
~/Library/Logs/rancher-desktop
, which includes symlinks to the Lima logs as well (so make sure you follow links if you create an archive of it)

I'll DM the logs to you once collected if that's ok
