If you're going to use an external SQL DB, it's recommended that you use something that's externally managed and has more reliability than your rke2 nodes. If you're just running a local datastore you're better off just using etcd. Adding kine but against a local DB is additional complication with no benefit.

If you put availability over consistency and have constraints of only having two servers split into two zones, you have no other chance 🙂 And it seems to work. Look at the two node solution of SpectroCloud and the KubeCon Paris talks from SUSE and Synadia.

and how are you setting up your mysql db for replication? Even for that you’d want a 3rd node as a witness.
