Like I said I just downloaded the latest version and installed it. WSL2 is already working as well.

okay... I would try quitting rancher desktop then opening it again and looking if the factory reset in the troubleshooting section does something

Tried unregistering rancher-desktop and rancher-desktop-data with wsl command then re-started rancher desktop. Similar but different error now: 
wsl.exe --import rancher-desktop C:\Users\joshua\AppData\Local\rancher-desktop\distro C:\Program Files\Rancher Desktop\resources\resources\win32\distro-0.65.tar --version 2
