If I ran wsl.exe --shutdown, how do I get rancher desktop to restart the wsl container?
w
when RD calls the distro WSL will restart itself
same w any WSL distro
l
what command can I run to get RD to call the distro?
w
it does when it starts?
i would just restart RD
if you ran shutdown while RD is going you sort of pulled the rug out from under it so not a situation i would expect it would handle well
l
so I need to reboot to fix a
--shutdown
rug pull or is there something I can do to start it again. Also what's the correct way of getting it to shutdown in windows?
w
not sure i follow.
--shutdown
is fine for WSL. But if you are using tools that are using it as a service well i would quit them before killing it. you don't need to restart your machine. Just quit RD and then start it again. When RD asks for its distro the WSL VM will restart behind the scenes and all will be well
