In k3s everything is self contained within the binary so you don't use the binary to upgrade - you upgrade the binary. This means stopping the k3s service and deleting and reinstalling the k3s binary. You need to do it one node at a time. Is there a reason you can't use the system-upgrade-controller to help out?

@bulky-sunset-52084 when Rancher is running in the K3s cluster, is it still recommended to use the system-upgrade-controller over manually replacing the K3s binary to upgrade?

if its the rancher local cluster then you should just use rancher to do the upgrade of the local cluster

And that's by using the system-upgrade-controller? Sorry we've only done a few manual upgrades in the past, ran into problems, and punted on upgrades until we built a new up to date cluster. We're trying to do things "the right way" going forward. And yes it's the local cluster
