I don't know; I didn't do the testing. I was told that the version shipped with Leap 15.5 doesn't work, and that you have to install it explicitly via
obs:Virtualization
b
Sounds to me like a bug report is needed...
f
Anyways, don't use
virtiofs
on Linux right now; best case it doesn't work, and worst case it can destroy your
HOME
directory.
The bug is in the Alpine support in Lima, which is used to manage the VM in Rancher Desktop. It is not a general issue of
virtiofs
.
b
@fast-garage-66093 I've removed it for the moment and locked...
f
It also potentially happens with
9p
, but for some lucky reason the files are only deleted inside the VM, and not on the host.
b
My $HOME is on xfs
f
We have a fix that will ship in Rancher Desktop 1.13.
The filesystem on the host doesn't matter; it is the mount type used to mount the directory inside the VM. It affects
virtiofs
and
9p
because the mounts happen on first boot, before the
/home
inside the VM is moved to the persistent volume.

Ahh, ok, we just had an update to virtiofsd in Tumbleweed that caused a few dup issues with it's directory location. All my vm's are either Leap or MicroOS and one windows 11. I don't see a need for it anyway...
