you need 3 or more server nodes for HA: https://docs.k3s.io/architecture#high-availability-k3s

If you use an external DB you only need 2, but I don't think NATS is supported? These are your options: https://docs.k3s.io/datastore

nats support is available, but still kinda experimental. We don't cover it in the docs yet, but I think the synadia folks that contributed nats support have a blog post on it somewhere?
