Hi, our use-case is to replace ubuntu and get rid of the typical update process of a traditional OS. Doing a on-the-fly update of the complete OS by changing one yaml line sounds good so far.

Hi @modern-television-79263! We do see Elemental as the successor to RancherOS. We have focused more on the edge use-cases where you cannot easily replace a node, which is why we have the upgrade and reset workflows. Elemental does work well on vmware and you absolutely can drain and roll a new node using elemental if that's the workflow you prefer!
