I apologize for the inconvenience, but adding a schema version to the profiles was really necessary to avoid upgrade issues in the future.

Since you are deploying Rancher Desktop with a script, can't you add the corresponding version string with the same script as well?
i
Thank you Jan! yeah, versioning the schema is an excellent idea! 👍 As for the script, it only manages the initial installation and configuration. The version upgrade is contingent upon when the Rancher App prompts a restart for updates (the auto-update is not disabled)
f
Again, I'm sorry for the extra hassle, but unfortunately it doesn't seem like there is anything we can do; this time you will have to upgrade the deployment profiles manually when you upgrade Rancher Desktop.

As a principle, Rancher Desktop never writes to or deletes profiles, not even during a factory-reset. They are no considered part of the app installation, but something installed and managed separately.

No problem, that's fine with me. Thank you for the assistance! Yeah, the profile is very convenient way to ensure the RD runs with the desired configuration. Regarding auto-updates, does the RD Upgrade server provides custom recommendations, e.g. based on current version or does it prompt installing the latest version from GitHub releases? (I plan to delve into the source code for more insights tomorrow.)
f
It will recommend the latest release that is compatible with your machine. E.g some time soon we may stop supporting macOS Catalina, so if you are on Catalina, you will no longer get upgrades from then on.
Note also that automatic updates are enabled manually, typically a couple of days after the release. E.g. we never enabled auto-updates to 1.12.0 because discovered an issue on Windows that required the 1.12.1 patch release. So auto-update will upgrade to that version sometime soon.

Thank you once again! It addresses the gap in my understanding regarding the situation with updates I observed.
