I don't know that there would be that much difference effectively. I looked at the vrtx but the homelab community content is a little thin on the quirks. Whichever choice fits best in your budget and hardware you want to play with

Cheers, price wise they work out pretty much the same. I am rather tempted to go with the vrtx but not sure how well the storage would work, I would still want to use longhorn for the individual nodes and I think having a separate nas solution may work 'better' if I was to add another cluster in the future. Just was wondering if anyone had experience using the vrtx.

Longhorn has been great so far. I moved hardware from a single to triple nodes at the end of last year with no problems
