@agreeable-oil-87482 I let rancher take care of security group and now nodes are stuck at "Waiting for SSH to be available." Also checked the security group that rancher has created and SSH has 0.0.0.0/0 by default in that. 😁Looks like there is something I am missing.

this is running in a private subnet so after checking "Use only private IP address" it went through. but aguin, it is stuck on the same screen as before:

and yes I was able to ssh in into the newly created machine

and to answer your previous question, I always kept Cloud provider to none. Like below:
