If they don't need the old VM, then a factory reset is the easiest way to recover.

Eric claims Migrate API-based settings payloads so the API can handle a settings payloads with an earlier version. by ericpromislow · Pull Request #5902 will already fix it, so there should be no other change required once the updated settings migration is merged.

Fwiw his install was sufficiently broken that today we opted for a factory reset of RD

I would expect just deleting
settings.json
will also fix it, but am not sure if I actually tested it or not. Either way, it should be fixed in 1.12 next month
