are any other wsl distributions working?
b
Hey @wide-mechanic-33041 I used the wsl list online command and installed Ubuntu distribution, That seams to work fine, However Rancher Desktop is not working...
h
It looks like it's trying to unregister rancher-desktop-data, which you don't have. Rancher Desktop should install that automatically at startup. If possible, I would do a Factory Reset to get to a know starting point and try again.
b
Yes you are right, the rancher-desktop-data should get created automatically but it isn't happening for some reason. I did the factory reset a couple of times but no luck @handsome-jewelry-53515
h
Let's see if there are any clues in the WSL log at %userprofile%\AppData\Local\rancher-desktop\logs\wsl.log
...also look through the other logs to see if there are any obvious errors.
b
I got this from wsl.exe Something wrong with tar.exe perhaps...
h
not sure. It could be, or it could be a bad RD installation. I would try setting Ubuntu as your default distro, with 'wsl --set-default Ubuntu' then do a 'wsl --status' to make sure it shows Ubuntu and that the default version is '2'. If status looks good and restarting doesn't work, I would try downloading and installing a fresh Rancher Desktop. In the mean time, I'll look a little deeper into it, and maybe someone else will have an idea...
I believe the rancher-desktop-data is included in the installer, that's why I would recommend re-installing.
w
agreed with all that. WSL is working so you have a known good situation. Seems like there are some bits missing from the install as i think exit code 2 for tar means it couldn't find the source file to unarchive

@handsome-jewelry-53515 @wide-mechanic-33041 Sadly resintall did not work.., I did it like 3 to 4 times, I even downloaded 1.10 version and still the same issue persists, I'll try setting Ubuntu as default, check the status and let u guys know what it outputs on the cli...
w
you may want to uninstall and check for any remnants and manually delete. seems like something is not being replaced
