As long as you're using versions that match up in the compatibility matrix you're good to go

Well, following up with the versions compatibility between EKS (AWS) and Rancher is sometimes risky while it could happen that you will update your EKS in the version that is not supported with Rancher! I think Rancher needs to update stuff more in Synch with Cloud providers to be sure that you are not going to have issues because of the versions compatibility K8s - Rancher.
