They both are stable... RKE requires docker RKE2 does not require docker. with docker requirement it was yet another thing I had to check support matrix on. so I personally use RKE2 but nothing wrong with RKE also. My 1st cluster was RKE and it ran for over 4-years (with all the updates it still worked no problems)

I have to deploy 14 downstream clusters both non prod and prod setups . Just making sure to follow a path linearly . I will keep this in mind

RKE2 and K3s are the “new way” of doing things. RKE works fine and will continue to be supported, but for me personally I wouldn’t pick something that relied on docker/cri-dockerd for a new cluster.
