I have an intel Mac and I am not seeing this. I just checked my TW laptop and it is running just fine there as well.
b
Yeah I'm sure this isn't a universal issue, but was wondering if anyone else had encountered it. Not sure where to start troubleshooting
I am seeing it on a 2022 M2 MacBook pro running Ventura 13.4.1 & a Windows 10 system
c
odd, could you try on another network?
b
Sure, although my macbook is at work and my Windows box is at home so they are already 2 different networks. I'll try again though
I also don't see the same issue when using Docker Desktop but prefer to use Rancher Desktop.
c
is there any VPN going on there?
b
Maybe, I can try to troubleshoot that.
f
I'm seeing the issue, and for me the delay is more like 10s. Unfortunately I have no idea what i causing it. I verified that I see the same delay using Lima directly, so it is not something in Rancher Desktop itself.

Thank you! It's great to know I'm not alone. Thank you for verifying it with Lima too, I'll raise the issue lower.
b
I have this issue as well on Win 11.
f
@bulky-computer-31499 Do you use the new (experimental) network tunnel? If not, could you try it, to see if it makes a difference?
b
This issue points to DNS... it's always DNS 😒 https://github.com/lima-vm/lima/issues/1333
f
Yes, that's why I asked about the new networking tunnel mode, as it uses a different mechanism to resolve DNS
b
I'll upgrade to 1.9 and give that a shot.
Currently on 1.8.1
f
Please go to 1.9.1. It has at least one important fix if you are using proxy servers, which got broken in 1.9.0

upgraded to 1.9.1, enabled networking tunnel under preferences -> wsl -> network tab. Pulls start immediately now πŸ™‚

On MacOS, using
socket-vmnet
did not change the behavior for me. I will check on Windows when I can

It is the new
user-v2
networking stack on Lima that I would expect to provide the same functionality as our networking tunnel on Windows (they are both based on gvisor).
user-v2
networking is not exposed in Rancher Desktop yet.
