No I don't think this will be good. We are in the process of reviewing the github releases to properly point the appropriate registry and images. These charts in github have some legacy setup we have to review. Currently all the builds are happening within the Open Build Service (including charts), but we are thinking on eventually changing how charts are build to something that is more obvious for use cases like yours.

Sure, any help is always wellcome and we encourage contributions. In this particular case, though, it is hard to contribute as this tightly related to our release processes and this is likely to depend and relate with our internal processes. In any case we try to keep everything in the open so I'll let you know when the issues are created in github so you can follow them, probably you can help us providing a better solution.
