try to pull this into a thread to avoid spamming the main workspace. So everything is pointing at wsl-vpnkit. is that because you need to work around a vpn issue? is the built in gvisor support not working?

not that i am aware of. the rancher team added gvisor based tunneling for windows in https://github.com/rancher-sandbox/rancher-desktop/issues/3810 and are refining it. it is based off the same model as the wsl-vpnkit project, but is built in

OK, back from PTO and caught up, so are you saying I dont need the wsl-vpnkit linux image at all, just remove it and retry starting rancher client with rancher-desktop wsl2 image running?

I don't have the context, but in general yeah we haven't been attempting to support wsl-vpnkit at all; if you have that we basically can't support you. I filed a task to actually show that in diagnostics a few days ago. I'd be interested in which documentation you were looking at (so we could go fix it).
