A newbie question perhaps. I have access to Rancher dashboard that manages on-prem and Azure k8s clusters. How can i tell from the dashboard where Rancher is installed? I see Rancher --> Local but doesn’t tell me where it is installed

Is there a well-defined procedure for changing Rancher Server's DNS name/hostname part of the server URL? I am able to do

helm upgrade

with a new set value

hostname

, but this does not influence the Harvester import URL that the Rancher UI prescribes, so I guess there is at least one missing step. Thank you for your insight.

hmm Rancher doesn't like when IPs change on nodes.. but the machine names are the same in the cloud provider 🤔

One of the big questions I've had is what exactly to make these images with that rke2 uses. Images using the Ubuntu server iso and using packer to configure were very flaky and when the clusters did deploy they failed often when adding nodes. I am using vSphere btw. I discovered the Ubuntu cloud images which come in various formats. I used the ova which weighs in at ~650mb! Not only do these deploy faster because of their size, RKE2 likes them more! I have clusters deploying in various configurations in like 3 minutes! Wish I would have known about this sooner 😅

Hi Team, I am bringing up RKE2 with my own CNI. After applying the manifests of CNI, the coredns pods did not come up with the error message "could not find the CNI plugin in /opt/cni/bin". After extracting the https://github.com/containernetworking/plugins/releases/download/v1.1.1/cni-plugins-linux-amd64-v1.1.1.tgz plugin in /opt/cni/bin folder, it got created. Why is it needed to copy the plugin and will this needed only in case of custom CNI option?

Hi @clean-ghost-11464, can you please help me find the answer to my question? Our team is working on the SDL review of our project which is based on Rancher. We found that cattle-cluster-agent opens two ports on the downstream cluster: 80 and 443, but we can't figure out what is the client that uses these ports, what's their usage. We use Rancher v2.7, Kubernetes Version: v1.24.10, RKE2 v1.24.9+rke2r2. Cluster Type: Downstream - 1 node with three roles: etcd, cp and worker. The downstream K8s cluster is installed on Ubuntu 22.04 VM via Rancher. I haven't found any architecture diagrams/videos/documents that explain use of these ports by the cattle-cluster-agent. Maybe it is a trivial question, I just don't find any document that answers it straight and could only try to guess based on the code. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Team, I am trying to create a new cluster through Rancher with CNI option as none. Also passed the additional manifests to bring up the custom CNI. CNI came up fine, the nodes are in ready state. Cluster agent is also connected. I am also able to view the cluster dashboard. But the state of the cluster is in updating state and not moving to the Active state. What needs to be done to make the cluster into active state or is it expected to be in updating state? UI gives me a mesage "Configuring bootstrap node(s) custom-c3464675edca: waiting for agent to check in and apply initial plan"

Did anyone manage to create Ingress with TLS using a JSON API request?

Everything works, except the secretName is not set. If I do it manually via UI or Using YAML it works fine. Over JSON API it doesn't set the secret at all
